Fraternization Series
For this series, I wanted to develop a collaboration with local artists that would combine creative mediums which are not generally thought of together to fashion an imaginative mixed media series that would merge photography and painting into a unique interpretation. My idea was to photograph models in a high fashion style in various parts of the city that either suffered from some type of urban decay or were known landmarks of the city. I printed these photos on large canvas panels and then forwarded them to each individual artist to paint them and “do with them as they will” with no stipulations whatsoever, making each version of the artwork distinctive and fresh. I was especially interested in observing how the meaning of each piece changed as it was transformed from simply a photograph to a mixed media presentation, and what each artist created using their own personal vision to enhance the outcome of the example thus creating a distinctive “fraternization.”
